For sale is a vintage (44 years old) 5-piece solid pecan bedroom set (Armoir, Dresser, Mirror and two night stands). This is solid wood construction, no particle board or laminate here (very heavy!). This set features burled pecan finishing on all front facing surfaces. This is solid wood throughout, there is no veneer or particle board. This set has been in my family for the last 44 years. In very good shape although it of course has some minor dents and dings from 40 years of service. It was purchased by my parents in 1968 for approximately $2,000 in 1968 dollars. Factoring in a conservative estimate of inflation using published CPI values for that time frame would indicate that is about $11,000 in 2012 dollars. Searching the web I find that similar high end construction furniture "lists" for around $10,000 new today, so this estimation of original cost is not far off. The actual sales price for these sets are listed around $7,000. So I think 7 cents on the dollar is a fair price, which yields about $500.
